Walk-In Hunting

Walk-in Hunting Areas are parcels of land open to anyone with a valid hunting license for the species allowed to be hunted on the Walk-In Hunting Area; no permission slip is required. These Access Yes areas are usually smaller than Hunter Management Areas and, as the name implies, typically require hunters to walk in to hunt. WIHAs are similar to HMAs in that landowners determine which species can be hunted and when access will be granted. The Access Yes Program enrolls over 700,000 private and state acres involving roughly 450 landowners in WIHAs.

Public lands within the boundaries of Walk-In Areas are not subject to Access Yes rules and Chapter 23 regulations if entry is legally obtained without the use of enrolled property.

Important notice

Updated Hunter Management Area and Walk-In Hunting Area information will be available in July. Applications for permission slips for the fall hunting seasons will begin on July 21.
