Help improve Flaming Gorge fishery, reel in rewards
Fisheries biologist deploy nets on Flaming Gorge Reservior

GREEN RIVER— Since January, the Flaming Gorge Chamber of Commerce, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department and the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources have collaborated on an Angler Harvest Program aimed at encouraging anglers to harvest lake trout under 25 inches long at Flaming Gorge Reservoir.

The goal is to reduce the number of smaller lake trout in the reservoir and improve the overall health and balance of the fishery. Removal of these smaller fish reduces competition for forage, improves growth rates of remaining lake trout and helps maintain a balanced predator–prey relationship that benefits the broader sportfish community.

There is still time to participate; the program ends on April 30.

The current top five anglers are:

  • Robb Keith – 284 fish.
  • Jeremy Wallace – 188 fish.
  • Stephanie Wallace – 151 fish.
  • John Lundgren – 61 fish.
  • Shane Dubois – 25 fish

Monetary awards will be paid to the top five anglers who turn in the most fish, and to the first ten anglers who turn in tagged lake trout. Thirty-five cash awards of $150 will be drawn at random at the conclusion of the program. Each valid lake trout head submitted will count towards an entry into the random draw. For example, entering 42 heads will result in 42 entries into the random draw.
