CODY— Local youth and their families are invited to cast a line and enjoy a day of outdoor fun at upcoming Kids Fishing Day events in Cody and Lovell on June 6. The events are free and the entire family is encouraged to attend for a fun and relaxing day of fishing in local community ponds.

Lovell Event & Pond Rededication

At the Bighorn Canyon Visitor’s Center in Lovell, the National Park Service will host activities from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The event kicks off with a special rededication of the Visitor’s Center pond, which was recently expanded and improved thanks to the generous donation of resources from Bairco Construction. The June 6 event also launches the National Park Service’s new “Reel” Fun Adventures series, which will offer hands-on fishing experiences for youth, families and first-time anglers this summer.

Cody Event

The Cody event will take place at the Beck Lake Complex, co-hosted by the Cody Optimists Club, the East Yellowstone Chapter of Trout Unlimited and the Shoshone National Forest. Registration is from 8-9 a.m., with the kids fishing competition kicking off at 9 a.m.

The first 350 children (ages 14 and under) who register will receive a free fishing pole and gift bag. The day includes a hotdog lunch provided by the Cody Optimists beginning at 11 a.m., and concludes with prizes awarded at 1 p.m.

Participants should bring their own poles; bait and some fishing poles and gear will be provided.  As Wyoming’s weather can be unpredictable, everyone should dress warmly and be prepared for potential weather.

These events coincide with National Fishing and Boating Week and Wyoming’s Free Fishing Day. Saturday, June 6, marks Wyoming's Free Fishing Day, allowing anyone to fish statewide without a license or Conservation Stamp, though all other fishing regulations and limits remain in effect. More information on Free Fishing Day can be found in the Wyoming fishing regulations booklet.
