CODY- Scott Werbelow, game warden coordinator for the Cody Region retired last week, concluding a 33-year career with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.

“Scott is known by many for his friendly demeanor, positive attitude and ability to instantly make friends.  His ability to share stories and interact with people have allowed him to build relationships and connections making him successful in his roles with Game and Fish,” said Wildlife Division Chief Dan Smith. “Scott's dedication, expertise and professionalism will have a lasting mark on the public and the department.”

Werbelow started his career with Game and Fish in 1992 as a damage technician stationed in the Cody region. Four years later, he took a temporary watercraft enforcement position patrolling Alcova, Pathfinder and Seminoe Reservoirs near Casper.

In 1996, Werbelow transferred to Pinedale where he served as a contract elk feedground manager and game warden for the region. In 2004, Werbelow was promoted to game warden coordinator for the Jackson/Pinedale regions where he supervised seven game wardens and performed game warden duties throughout the western part of the state. In 2011, Werbelow transferred back to the Cody region where he has served as game warden coordinator for the past 15 years.

“Scott’s calm, friendly and supportive attitude, as well as his institutional knowledge and experience, always helped the region to address challenges," Grant Gerharter, Cody region wildlife supervisor said. “That mentality and presence was important to our team. Scott is a genuinely great person and a true representation of a Wyoming game warden.”

Werbelow received the Pinedale Region’s Peer Recognition award in 2009 and served on the Governor's Brucellosis Coordination Team for ten years.

"I have been truly blessed to work with some of the finest wildlife managers in the state, if not the world. I have had the opportunity to do and see things that most people can't even imagine. The past 33 years have been a blessed and amazing journey for me,” Werbelow said.
