Public Meeting in Lusk: Rawhide Elk Herd Management Objective Review

WHEATLAND — The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking public input on the proposed revision of the management objective for the Rawhide Elk Herd Unit (Hunt Area 3). Two public meetings have been scheduled to discuss the changes and gather feedback from the public.

  • Guernsey: June 2, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.

First State Bank, 250 West Whalen St

  • Lusk: June 9, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.

Niobrara County Fairgrounds, 4080 US-20

Objective Reviews are conducted every 5 years and help regional biologists make decisions about managing wildlife populations. The Rawhide Elk Herd Unit encompasses southeastern Wyoming and primarily consists of private lands and limited elk habitat. The proposed revision aims to change the objective from a Landowner and Hunter Satisfaction-based objective to a post-season population objective.  In 2025, the Department is dissolving all Landowner and Hunter Satisfaction-based objectives for elk populations and transitioning to post-season population objectives for those respective herd units.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the herd's status and management challenges and to provide comments on the proposed changes.
