CHEYENNE – The Downar Bird Farm had an above-average hatch this year and will release approximately 18,000 pheasants throughout the region this fall.
Release sites include Springer Wildlife Habitat Management Area, Table Mountain WHMA, Glendo State Park, Goshen County walk-in areas 24 & 63, and Laramie County WIA 2. These areas will be stocked twice a week during the general season starting November 1 until mid-December, as long as cover is available for the birds. Pheasants will also be stocked daily for the Springer Special Hunt from October 10 through the end of the month on the Springer WHMA.
Hunters should be aware that different release sites have different requirements. Please review the regulations prior to heading afield.
Youth-only days
- Springer WHMA (Hunt Area 8) youth-only days are October 11, 19, 25
- Glendo State Park (Hunt Area 9) youth-only days are November 2, 9, 16, 23, 30
Pheasant Special Management Permit
In hunt areas 7, 8, 9 and 11, a Pheasant Special Management Permit is required to hunt pheasants on:
- Springer and Table Mountain WHMAs
- Glendo State Park
- Goshen County WIAs 24 & 63
- Laramie County WIA 2
- Any land enrolled in the Access Yes Program open to pheasant hunting, including walk-in areas adjacent to Glendo State Park
These permits offset the cost of raising and releasing pheasants so Game and Fish can provide hunters with an increased opportunity to pursue this species.
Springer special hunt
From October 10 through 31, there will be additional pheasant stocking on the Springer WHMA. In order to participate in this season, hunters must have
- A Springer permit valid for the day
- A valid bird license
- Hunter safety
- Conservation stamp
- Pheasant Special Management Permit
Hunters must check in at the check station prior to hunting and must check out before leaving. The check station is open from 7:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Parking lot assignments shall be issued by the Department.
