Game and Fish seeks information on poached elk near Hyattville
A dead bull elk that was shot and left to waste.

CODY— The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking information from the public regarding three bull elk that were illegally shot and left to waste northeast of Hyattville.

On Oct. 15, two dead bull elk were discovered within 200 yards of each other approximately three-fourths of a mile south of Medicine Lodge Archaeological Site. A third bull elk carcass was found nearby the following day. The carcasses were decomposed and scavenged upon when found, indicating they died well before the hunting season opened. In all three instances, the elk were shot and the entire carcass was left to waste. No meat, head or antlers were taken.

Investigating wardens estimate the bull elk were killed between Oct. 3 and Oct. 10.

Anyone with information about this incident, or who observed suspicious activity or vehicles in the area during that timeframe, is urged to  call the state’s Stop Poaching Hotline at 1-877-WGFD-TIP (1-877-943-3847).
