LARAMIE — As anglers head out for the Labor Day weekend, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department reminds the public that voluntary fishing closures remain in place on several waters across the state to help protect fish during continued warm water temperatures.
Current voluntary closures include:
- Upper North Platte River near Saratoga
- North Platte River near Casper
- Encampment River
- Bighorn River
- Deer Creek near Glenrock
- Green River
- North Sayles ponds and Muddy Guard Reservoir #1 near Buffalo
Warm water holds less oxygen, making it difficult for fish to recover after being caught and released. As water temperatures rise above 70 degrees, the likelihood of fish surviving after release decreases significantly.
Game and Fish staff continue to monitor water temperatures and stream flows throughout the state. These voluntary closures will be modified or lifted as conditions improve.
Across the state, anglers can help reduce stress on fish by angling during the early morning hours, minimizing fish handling and watching for voluntary closure signs at public fishing areas.
