Casper Region deer hunters reminded of later opening date in Deer Hunt Area 65

CASPER, Wyo. — The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is reminding deer hunters of a season date change for the general deer hunting season in Deer Hunt Area 65 near Glenrock and Douglas.

The deer season in Hunt Area 65 will open Oct. 20, shifting five days later than its traditional Oct. 15 opening date. The season will run through Oct. 31.

Game and Fish wildlife managers adjusted the opening date during the season-setting process in April to better align Hunt Area 65 with surrounding hunt areas, simplifying regulations for hunters.

"We want to make sure hunters planning trips in Area 65 double-check their regulation booklets before heading out," said Kye Hick, Douglas wildlife biologist for Game and Fish. "Moving the opener to Oct. 20 creates consistency across neighboring hunt areas, but hunters who are used to the traditional Oct. 15 start need to plan for that extra five-day wait."

All hunters are encouraged to review the official 2026 Wyoming Hunting Regulations brochure before going into the field. Regulations, hunt area maps, and license details are available online or at any Game and Fish regional office.
