Becoming a Wyoming Falconer

 

Refer to Chapter 25, Falconry and Raptor Propagation Regulation for specifics.

 

You must be at least 12 years of age and if less than 18 years of age, have a parent or legal guardian who is legally responsible for the falconry activities.

 

Testing:  You must pass the Wyoming falconry exam.  Call to schedule a time to take your exam at one of the WGFD Regional Offices or the Cheyenne Headquarters.  Exams are graded at the Casper Regional Office.

 

Study materials for the Falconry Exam:

  • California Hawking Club Apprentice Study Guide – www.calhawkingclub.org
  • North American Falconry and Hawks (library) 

 

Exams will be graded at the Casper Regional Office and potential falconers will be notified of their test scores, along with instructions for obtaining a permit (permit application, facilities inspection, etc.).

 

All apprentice falconers must have a sponsor (must be a Wyoming licensed General or Master falconer).

Current Hunting Regulations

Hunting game birds & small game

Refer to Chapter 11: Upland Game Bird and Small Game Falconry Seasons and/or Chapter 14: Falconry Seasons for information about hunting game birds, small game, or waterfowl with a falcon.

Hunting sage-grouse

If you plan to hunt sage-grouse with your falcon, please obtain a sage-grouse permit, your falconry permit, and an upland game bird license.
