CHEYENNE — During its March 19-20 meeting, the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission approved a series of measures and received updates on several key projects.
The Commission welcomed two new commissioners: Bill Mai of Laramie and Fonzy Haskell of Moorcroft. Ashlee Lundvall of Powell was nominated and approved as the new Commission President. Mark Jolovich of Torrington was appointed as the Commission Vice President.
Game and Fish Director Angi Bruce provided the commissioners with an update, including current challenges and work concerning the spread of chronic wasting disease throughout the state. Commissioners also listened to multiple information presentations and annual reports from Game and Fish experts, including large carnivores, mule deer monitoring, media analytics, housing for Jackson Region employees, and the most recent mule deer public meeting update.
Afton Senior Game Warden James Hobbs was recognized for being named the 2024 Shikar-Safari Wildlife officer of the Year for Wyoming. The annual award is presented to one wildlife officer in every state and Canadian province by the Shikar-Safari Club International for outstanding performance and achievement.
“James is a great representation of a Wyoming game warden, and this award is well-deserved,’ said Chief Game Warden Dan Smith. ‘It has been an honor to work with him through the years. His hard work and dedication exemplify our department’s values.”
Awards were also given to Clark’s Fork Hatchery Superintendent Dean Follett for 35 years of service, and Cody Region Game Warden Travis Crane, for 20 years of service.
The next Commission meeting will be April 22-23 in Casper. At this meeting, the Commissioners will consider public comment and finalize the 2025 hunting season regulations. Game and Fish has been holding public season-setting meetings throughout the state and is currently accepting public comment on the region’s hunting season proposals through April 2. The draft regulations and a full schedule of remaining meetings can be found on the Game and Fish season setting schedule page .
