LARAMIE — The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking public feedback as it reevaluates the population objective for the Sheep Mountain Mule Deer Herd Unit, which includes deer hunt areas 61 and 74–77.
The public is encouraged to participate by completing a brief online survey, which will help inform future management of the herd. The survey is available online and is open to hunters, landowners, local residents and anyone interested in mule deer management in southeastern Wyoming.
In addition to the survey, Game and Fish will host an open house on June 16 from 6–7:30 p.m. at the Wyoming Game and Fish Department Laramie Regional Office (1212 S Adams St). Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the herd, ask questions and discuss the proposed objective with wildlife managers.
Population objectives are reevaluated every 5 years and established using biological information about populations and habitat conditions. Input from landowners, hunters, land management agencies and the public is also taken into account when setting these objectives. Wildlife managers strive to maintain big game populations near established objectives to balance both biological and social carrying capacities. For more information regarding the proposed objective change, please see the survey linked below.
