CHEYENNE — Hunters can purchase type 8 elk licenses to help manage elk populations in specific hunt areas in Wyoming. Type 8 licenses are only valid for cow elk and address the challenges of over-abundant elk herds. These licenses aim to help manage elk populations toward population objectives and provide flexibility to landowners affected by large elk herds. 

Hunters can purchase an unlimited number of Type 8 licenses, which are available at a reduced price. However, hunters are advised to review specific hunt area limitations. Some areas may have restrictions such as "private land only" or "valid off national forest."
