CHEYENNE — The Sage-Grouse Implementation Team, under the direction of Governor Mark Gordon, is seeking public comment on proposed revisions to the Sage-Grouse Executive Order. These revisions were developed and are being proposed by the Sage-Grouse Implementation Team, or SGIT, subcommittee.
The Sage-Grouse Implementation Team is composed of representatives from state and federal agencies, industry and non-governmental organizations. Members of SGIT are governor-appointed and work collaboratively to protect sage-grouse under the State of Wyoming's Sage-Grouse Executive Order.
“Wyoming has consistently advocated for a Greater sage-grouse strategy that recognizes the state’s management authority over the species utilizing the best-available science,” Gordon said. “Wyoming has been a leader in the sage-grouse conservation for decades, and the State of Wyoming’s Executive Order Greater Sage-Grouse Core Area Protection strategy has spanned three governors in its foresight to have a state-lead conservation strategy. We appreciate the public’s input as we continue to invest in sage-grouse conservation alongside responsible development in Wyoming.”
The proposed amendments were developed by the SGIT committee.
The SGIT subcommittee meets throughout the year to discuss management strategies for sage-grouse in Wyoming. This year, the group was tasked with considering and reviewing the latest science and data to develop necessary amendments to the executive order. The recommendations include input from conservation interests, private landowners, energy development officials, local government and state agencies.
