JACKSON- The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is continuing work on the Jackson Housing Project and upcoming road improvements will impact public access to the South Park Wildlife Habitat Management Area.
Public access through the South Park Feedground Road will be temporarily closed in two stages.
During the first stage which is set to begin on Aug. 19, the road improvements will focus on grading operations and the replacement of two cattle guards. This stage is expected to be completed by Aug. 22.
The second stage of road work will focus on paving the road to the Jackson Housing Project and the road along the housing units. This stage will begin on Sept. 3 and is expected to be completed by Sept. 6.
During road work, access will be closed at the turnoff to the South Park WHMA off of Wyoming Highway 89, approximately five miles south of Jackson. This includes vehicle and walk-in access through the WHMA entrance road. Signs will be posted at the entrance to the WHMA as well as on the highway along both the northbound and southbound lanes to inform the public of the closures.
During these closures, members of the public will still be able to access the South Park WHMA from the southern entrance at the Von Gontard Landing Public Access Area. The Von Gontard PAA is located approximately 6 miles south of Jackson across Highway 89 from the confluence of Flat Creek and the Snake River.
