Laramie Volunteer Day: BDA Construction

LARAMIE – Community members are invited to roll up their sleeves and make a direct impact on Wyoming’s wildlife habitat during an upcoming volunteer project hosted by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.

On June 16th and 17th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., volunteers will help construct beaver dam analogs at the Forbes/Sheep Mountain Wildlife Habitat Management Area. These structures mimic natural beaver dams and serve to improve habitat, retain water on the landscape, and increase drought resilience.

No prior experience is necessary, although volunteers may get wet and dirty. Volunteers should wear clothes that can get muddy and consider bringing muck boots. Volunteers must provide their own transportation to the worksite.

All volunteers should bring:

  • Work gloves
  • Sun and insect protection
  • Plenty of water
  • Lunch and snacks (lunch will not be provided)
  • Layers for changing weather conditions

Those interested can sign up and find additional details through the event on our volunteer website. Questions can be directed to the project coordinator, Steve Gale at steve.gale@wyo.gov.
