The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking information on a suspected poaching incident in southwest Wyoming near the communities of Evanston, Cokeville, Kemmerer, Mountain View or the surrounding areas.

Game wardens have reason to believe a mule deer may have been illegally killed in the last couple of weeks, and the deer was not taken as part of a roadkill pickup.

“We are looking for the remnants of a gut pile or a deer carcass that is missing at least one hind quarter. It will likely be in close proximity to a road or two-track road,” Kemmerer Game Warden Alex Poncelet said. “We believe the vehicle involved is a lifted, pewter or silver-colored diesel pickup with large mud tires.”

Wardens are asking residents, landowners and recreationists in the area to report any suspicious activity or observations that may be related to this incident. Information provided by the public plays a critical role in protecting Wyoming’s wildlife and holding violators accountable.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Warden Alex Poncelet 307-877-3278 ( leave a message if no answer), call the Stop Poaching Hotline at 877-WGFD-TIP, send a text to 847-411 with keyword WGFD or submit an online report at wgfd.wyo.gov/stop-poaching#. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward through the Wyoming Wildlife Protector’s Association.
