GREEN RIVER— It’s almost time for the annual Mac Attack fishing contest, hosted and sponsored by Buckboard Marina, Feb. 15-17. The event will feature a fishing competition, door prizes, and activities for the entire family.
The event aims to recruit more anglers and maximize harvest of lake trout under 25 inches in Flaming Gorge. During the contest, participants can donate part or all of the lake trout they enter to Game and Fish at the weigh-in station. Game and Fish will give the donated lake trout to anyone who wants them as long as supplies last.
“Fisheries management crews from Wyoming and Utah are concerned with the abundance of small lake trout in Flaming Gorge Reservoir and the impact they are having on numbers of juvenile trout and kokanee,” said Robb Keith, Regional Fisheries Supervisor. “We are excited to work with our partners, like the owners of Buckboard Marina, to encourage anglers to harvest more small lake trout from the reservoir.”
Donated fish will be available at the big tan tent next to the Buckboard Marina store Saturday and Sunday from 5-7 p.m., and Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fish are available to the public on a first-come, first-serve basis. A fishing license is not required to receive donated fish.
The Mac Attack fishing contest is an excellent opportunity to have fun fishing and compete for prizes with fellow anglers. Over 20 cash prizes will be awarded to participants with the right fishing skills, plus at least seven great raffle prizes will be won by lucky participants.
