CODY - Looking for a new adventure and a fun way to spend quality time with loved ones? Kids ages 12-17, women and families in the Big Horn Basin who want to learn to hunt or fish are invited to apply for mentored hunting and fishing programs offered in the Big Horn Basin. Applications are due by May 16.
“No previous hunting or fishing experience or equipment is necessary. The programs are designed for first-time hunters and anglers and those that don’t have the opportunity to learn from a friend or family member,” said Tara Hodges, Wyoming Game and Fish Department Cody regional information and education specialist.
The Wood River Deer Hunt, First Fish on a Fly and Heart Mountain Bird Hunt programs are hosted by the Wyoming Outdoorsmen and the First Hunt Foundation with support from Game and Fish through the WY Hunt Fish initiative. In a unique collaboration, these organizations and private landowners are collaborating to offer first-time hunters and anglers an opportunity to learn under the guidance of experienced mentors.
Selected applicants will be paired with a mentor who will coach them through all aspects of a hunt for a doe white-tailed deer, pheasant hunt or fly fishing outings. Prior to the hunting or fishing experience, participants will spend time sharpening skills related to the activity of the specific program. A parent or a designated chaperon must accompany youth under 18 participating in the program.
No previous fishing, hunting or shooting experience is necessary. Parent-child teams who want to learn how to hunt together are highly encouraged to apply. Applications are due May 16. Spots are limited; apply on the Game and Fish website today!
