Newcastle Wildlife Biologist Joe Sandrini filmed these geese this morning between Upton and Osage.  Note there are two different species, the smaller goose is a Richardson’s cackling goose, and the two larger geese are the Moffitt’s Canada geese.

The larger Canada geese are setting up a nesting territory, and this is why they can be seen chasing the smaller goose off.  The smaller cackling goose is just migrating through on its way to the Arctic to nest.  Normally, the cackling geese don’t spend much time in Wyoming as the majority winter much farther south.

This is a great time of year to get out and view waterfowl as they migrate to, and through the state!
