Women invited to outdoor skills camp
The popular Wyoming Game and Fish Department outdoors program, Becoming an Outdoors-Woman, is back, and applications are open for women who want to develop their outdoors skills. The application deadline for the Becoming an Outdoors-Woman camp is April 15.
Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) is an outdoor skills program to help women learn and have fun outside. Wyoming’s BOW camp will be held June 23-25, 2017 at the YMCA of the Bighorns Camp Roberts outside of Buffalo. Activities at the camp are designed to introduce women to a variety of outdoor pursuits they can enjoy in Wyoming’s great outdoors—from hunting and shooting, to fly fishing, canoeing, and wildlife photography.
“BOW camp is designed for women who are interested in outdoor activities who may not know how to get started or who want hone their skills,” said Janet Milek, Casper regional information and education specialist, who is leading BOW efforts. “We supply the equipment and teach activities to empower women to get outside, try something new, and meet others with similar interests.”
Applications must be received by the Casper Regional Office of Game and Fish by 5 p.m. on April 15 by postal mail. Faxes and e-mails will not be accepted. The three-day event costs $150, which includes all meals, lodging, and equipment. Space is limited to 35 women, and participants will be selected through a random draw with 12 spots going to women already actively acting as mentors collaboratively with Game and Fish in their communities and their mentees.
