BOW Camp - Women tying a fly

The Wyoming Game & Department is excited to offer two Becoming an Outdoors-Woman programs - the traditional B.O.W., and Beyond B.O.W. - Hunting!

At the traditional Becoming an Outdoors-Woman, learn the basics of canoeing, archery, fly-tying, shooting skills, backpacking, outdoor photography and much more. Held June 11-13, 2021 at the Whiskey Mountain Conservation Camp outside Dubois, WY this is a great opportunity for about 30 women who have an interest in learning outdoor skills—skills usually associated with hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation. All classes are taught at the entry level in a safe, non-intimidating, outdoor setting. Registration fee is $150.  The application deadline for this program is April 1.

Beyond B.O.W. - Learn the basics of hunting in a field and structured environment and have the opportunity to go on an actual pronghorn hunt to apply your new found skills! Held September 7 – 12, 2021 near Jackson, WY, the training will include marksmanship, how to choose and care for your chosen method (archery, rifle or shotgun) field dressing and processing, how to plan a hunt including understanding land access, drawing odds, WY regulations, knife handling and sharpening, outdoor survival, gear considerations, a simulated hunt with live fire, and how to talk about your newfound interest including advocacy and social media ethics. Participants interested in rifle hunting may have the option to apply for pronghorn licenses and, if they successfully draw a license, have the opportunity to hunt with a mentor. Hunters who do not successfully draw a license or choose not to apply will have the option to experience the hunt as a hands-on participant without harvesting a pronghorn or may leave on the 11th after lunch.

A Mentoring Camp will be held concurrently with Beyond-B.O.W - Hunting, for 10 experienced hunters and/or anglers who would like to learn mentoring skills as well as how to develop effective best-practice mentoring programs for hunting and fishing.

Beyond B.O.W. - Hunting and the Mentoring Camp are held in partnership with the Safari Club International Foundation and the First Hunt Foundation, in the Bridger-Teton National Forest between Jackson and Pinedale.

All B.O.W. attendees and mentors must be at least 18 years old to apply. B.O.W. participation is chosen by a random draw. For traditional B.O.W., group applications are accepted of up to four, and for Beyond B.O.W. - Hunting group applications of two will be accepted. If not selected, application fees will be returned.
