New bear bait site registrations begin April 1
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department reminds those who want to use bait for the upcoming spring black bear season that the registration period for new/unclaimed bear bait sites begins Friday, April 1 at 8 a.m.

Individuals registering baits on April 1 will have to do so in person (or by representative) at the appropriate regional office where the bear hunt area is located (see table below). However, after 11 a.m. on April 1, remaining sites can be registered at any regional office. Bait sites cannot be registered at the Cheyenne Headquarters Office.

See the following table for black bear hunt areas by appropriate regional office(s).

See Section 6 of the Black Bear Hunting Regulations for areas closed to baiting.

Bear hunters must have a 2016 black bear license to register a bait site and no bear bait may be placed on state, federal, or Game and Fish lands without first registering the bait site with Game and Fish.

Each bear hunter is allowed two bait sites; however, hunters may only have one bait per section, as illustrated on U.S. Forest Service of Bureau of Land Management maps. Bear baits cannot be placed more than seven days prior to opening day and must be removed sevens days after the last day of hunting season.

Black bear hunters with questions about hunting seasons can review the regulations or contact the regional office closest to in the black bear hunt area.
