Hunting season is good time to pick up X-Stream Angler and Cutt-Slam certifications
Both the X-Stream Angler and Cutt-Slam programs offer anglers unique opportunities to experience scenic values and fishing diversity Wyoming has to offer. Many of the waters involved in the Cutt-Slam and X-Stream Angler programs are also near to some of Wyoming’s most popular hunting areas. This makes it very possible for hunters to come back from the mountains this fall with their X-Stream Angler and Cutt-Slam qualifications as well as their elk or deer.

Wyoming’s Cutt-Slam program was started in 1996 and since that time more than 1,200 anglers have received their Cutt-Slam certification.

The Cutt-Slam recognizes anglers who catch Wyoming’s four subspecies of cutthroat in their native range in Wyoming.  The four subspecies are the Yellowstone, Snake River, Bonneville and Colorado River cutthroat trout.  All who achieve this accomplishment receive a certificate listing the name of the angler, color artwork of the four subspecies and notation on the date and location of each catch.  Native range for at least one of the various subspecies are found in parts of the Medicine Bow, Bridger-Teton, Shoshone and Bighorn national forests as well as some Bureau of Land Management lands.

Finding waters covered under the X-Stream angler certification is even easier.  Instream flow segments of streams are found in 15 of Wyoming’s 23 counties.  To become an X-Stream angler, simply fish three instream segments, submit a photo of the angler fishing the segment and send in an application.  In addition to receiving a certificate from the Game and Fish, anglers who fish three segments will receive a poplin baseball cap with the program logo. Anglers who fish seven of the stream segments will receive an upscale oil-cloth cap.
