Come learn about the outdoors at Wyoming Outdoor Weekend
Mark your calendars for the Wyoming Outdoor Weekend, May 19-20 in Lander. This free event is in its third year and celebrates different ways to get outside and have fun. The event is co-hosted by Lander Economic Development Association and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.

The Wyoming Outdoor Weekend (WOW) will kick off with 450 pre-registered 3rd – 8th grade students learning about science and recreating in the outdoors. The doors open to the public from 3-8 p.m. on Friday at the Lander Community Center, where there will be local vendors and hands-on activities to explore. From 5-6:30 p.m. that evening a free happy hour featuring Wyoming brews brought to you by Fremont Distributing, free food brought to you by The Mule Deer Foundation, and music by Just Fiddlin’Around.

On Saturday from 9 a.m. -5 p.m. the same activities will be available to the public, as well as even more to explore, at the Central Wyoming College Sinks Canyon Field Station. For convenience, shuttle buses will be running from the Community Center to the Field Station all day Saturday to alleviate the limited parking at the Field Station. Individuals are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the free transportation.  Additionally, Trout Unlimited, Meridian Trust Federal Credit Union and The Lander Valley Wetland Preserve will be hosting a free WOW appreciation BBQ at Jaycee Park on Saturday evening starting at 6 p.m.

Many local and statewide businesses are sponsoring the event to make it fun and successful. To assist in this further, a shop/bank local raffle will be featured at the event, with prizes like Maven binoculars, a spotting scope and backpack, a Norco Bigfoot 6.3 fat bike, and more! Save your receipts on May 19 and 20 and for every $10 you spend on tangible goods (excluding fuel) in Lander, you will receive one free raffle ticket (up to $500 or 50 tickets). Tickets will also be able to be earned by making transactions, opening accounts or obtaining a loan at a local credit union or bank.  See the WOW website below for more details.  Tickets will also be available to purchase at the Community Center. The raffle drawings will be conducted during the appreciation BBQ on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Many other events will be happening around Lander that weekend to celebrate this event. A few are the Wyoming Fly Fish Festival, the Governor’s Wyoming Top 100 shooting competition, a ladies’ bike ride, a wetland tour, an art event, a 600-yard rifle match, and more.
