At the hatchery, the spawn begins mid February and continues through April. Personnel anticipate that two-million green eggs will be spawned and collected for incubation. In 2016, 460,000 eyed eggs have been requested by Game and Fish Hatcheries. These eggs will be incubated at Ten Sleep and then shipped to other Game and Fish hatcheries around the region. Once the eggs hatch, fish will be reared at Wyoming hatcheries, until they have reached the requested size for different bodies of water, and then stocked.
The majority of hatchery reared Yellowstone’s will be stocked into the Sunshine Reservoirs, Lake
DeSmet and used for restoration or enhancement projects. This summer, many of these fish will be
grown to about three-and- a-half inches, loaded onto helicopters, and stocked into wilderness areas on the National forest. Others will be grown, throughout the summer, and stocked as six-and- half inch fish this fall. The remainder of the fish will be grown throughout the winter, and stocked the following spring as nine to ten inch fish, into community or forest waters.
