- Hunters must apply for a point at least one every two years to keep accumulating a balance.
- If you drew your first choice for a hunt this year, you are not eligible to apply for preference points to use in next year’s draw for that species.
- If you applied for moose or bighorn sheep last year and were unsuccessful, you already accumulated a preference point.
- Youth have preference points, too, and they are at a youth-price. Youth points are for hunters 12 to 17 years old.
- If you were a nonresident unsuccessful in drawing your first-choice elk, deer or antelope license during the initial draw last year, you were not automatically awarded a preference point. You must apply for a point to accumulate one.
