In my mind fall is the best time to go fishing, even though I'm usually out hunting. Why do I say that? Great weather, fall colors (this fall has been exceptionally nice), and low stream and river flows provide for excellent wade fishing. Alpine lakes, as in the Snowy Range, are especially good and the scenery is fantastic. Hungry fish are trying to fatten up before winter hits too. Brook trout fishing is particularly good as they are in spawning mode, as are brown trout, and they are aggressive and hungry. Another reason to go out fishing now is that mosquitoes are essentially gone in the fall as opposed to spring and summer which makes for a more enjoyable outing. Lakes and reservoirs are also a good bet as many sportsmen are out hunting and waters are not near as crowded as in the summer. Finally, fall is also a great time for that last family camping trip before winter sets in.
