We are very excited about this new feature! A GeoPDF is a special version of an Adobe PDF document that relates a region on a map to its real-world coordinates via georeferencing. What this means is that you can now turn your smartphone into a GPS unit with your hunt area pre-programmed into it. And it works even when you don’t have cell reception! Here’s how to use it:
  • You will first need to download the free Avenza PDF Maps app to your phone.
  • After you download/install the app to your phone, come download the GeoPDF map you want from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s Hunt Planner. Look for the red “GeoPDF” icon on our interactive maps.  Load it up in the app, and then you’re all set.
  • Once you reach your hunting destination, open up the app and you’ll show up as a little blue dot on the map, and you can see right where you are within the hunt area. This is great for knowing where public/private lands are, where your hunt area is, landmarks and access roads.
  • When you are using the app, you can try out tools to measure distances, set waypoints and markers, and even upload photos that are tagged with latitude/longitude coordinates.
While the Hunt Planner is where we launched this new feature first, we also have GeoPDF’s for each of our Walk-In Areas, Hunter Management Areas and Wildlife Habitat Management Areas. For more detailed instructions on how to use our GeoPDF’s, please download our guide.
