Reminder: Fishing regulation changes to go into effect on Jan 1

JACKSON – The Wyoming Game and Fish Department reminds anglers of important changes to fishing regulations in the Jackson Region, set to take effect on January 1, 2026. These updates include lifting the October fishing closure on Jackson Lake and increasing the trout limit on a specific section of the Snake River.

There has been some misunderstanding regarding the effective date of the Jackson Lake fishing closure. All new fishing regulations become effective on January 1. This means that Jackson Lake will still be closed to fishing this October, but will be open for fishing starting in October 2026.

The increased trout limit applies to the section of the Snake River from 150 feet below Jackson Lake Dam to the gauging station located 1,500 feet downstream from the dam. This section is favored by bait anglers and those looking to harvest fish. The daily trout limit in this area will increase from three to six, and length restrictions will be removed, allowing for the harvest of more abundant brown trout. The limit for cutthroat trout will remain unchanged, which is currently three per day; only one can exceed 12 inches. This regulation will not take effect until January 1, 2026.

The current 2025 fishing regulations and commission-approved changes to the 2026 regulations can be found on the Game and Fish regulations webpage. For additional questions, please contact the Game and Fish Jackson Regional Office at (307) 733-2321.
