Public Meeting in Torrington Monday, May 11

TORRINGTON – The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is hosting a public information meeting regarding the proposed acquisition of property adjacent to the Table Mountain Wildlife Habitat Management Area (WHMA). The meeting is open to all interested parties.  There will be time to  discuss the proposal with department staff following a short presentation.

The meeting will be held at the Platte Valley Bank Meeting Room (2201 Main St) in Torrington from 6pm-7pm.

In line with the mission of Conserving Wildlife, Serving People, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department is committed to providing hunting and fishing opportunities to the public through our Wildlife Habitat Management Areas. Many of these areas are purchased with revenue generated through the sale of conservation stamps, which are a required companion for most hunting and fishing licenses.

About the Property

The property is located off of County Road 55 in Goshen County, adjacent to the southeastern portion of the Table Mountain WHMA, and will be included in the WHMA once approved for purchase. The parcel is 368 acres in total, including 84 acres of associated water rights.  The property will remain in agricultural production, and Game and Fish will continue to pay property taxes on the parcel. This acquisition will expand and enhance wildlife habitat and allow increased hunting opportunity for the sporting public.

The public is encouraged to submit a comment on the acquisition of this property at the public meeting or at https://wgfd.info/3PzXG5j

About Table Mountain WHMA

Located 15 miles southeast of Torrington, Table Mountain WHMA was acquired in 1961 to conserve waterfowl and upland gamebird habitat. It is currently 1,732 acres, the majority of which is managed cooperatively with the Bureau of Land Management. The unit provides year-round recreation access for activities like fishing, hunting, trapping, camping, hiking and wildlife viewing and is closed to motor vehicle traffic from October 1 to May 16.

Over the past 65 years, Game and Fish has improved the 590 acres wetland habitat on Table Mountain, installed goose-nesting structures, and planted cover vegetation for both game and nongame species of birds. It is an important migration stopover site for numerous species, especially geese, ducks and sandhill cranes.
