Game and Fish welcomes a new wildlife biologist in Rawlins
Wildlife Biologist Ashley Umphlet

LANDER- Ashley Umphlett is the new Rawlins Wildlife Biologist for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.

She fills the position after long-time biologist Greg Hiatt retired late last year.

Umphlett was born and raised in Cody, Wyoming, and attended the University of Wyoming, where she earned a degree in General Biology and a second degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology and Management in 2020.  She started with the Game and Fish in 2018 as an aquatic invasive species technician. She has since worked for the department as a fish culture technician, chronic wasting disease technician, habitat and access specialist, and most recently, as a wildlife technician in the Cody Region.

In her free time, Umphlett enjoys hunting, fishing, spending time with friends and family, and playing with her black lab puppy, Dino (named after the Sinclair Dinosaur).

“After 46 years of Greg Hiatt's stewardship of this area, I am excited to take such a well-cared-for area and provide a new perspective on one of Wyoming’s most hidden gems, “ said Umphlett. “I look forward to exploring the country and getting to know the people who live and love to recreate in Carbon County.”

As stewards of Wyoming's wildlife resources, biologists are committed to conserving and enhancing all wildlife and their habitats for future generations through scientific resource management and informed public participation.

You can reach Umphlett at 307-320-6200.
