Overview:
Get ready for the upcoming hunting season with hands-on training from Wyoming Game and Fish Department wildlife professionals! Join us on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 5 p.m. in the shop area at the Casper Regional Office to learn about the disease and how to properly locate, extract, preserve, and submit lymph nodes from harvested deer and elk for chronic wasting disease (CWD) testing.
What You'll Learn:
- History and ecology of the disease
- Hands-on procedures for locating and extracting lymph nodes
- Proper tools, techniques, preservation, and lab submission guidelines
- Regional sampling requirements/requests for mandatory and priority hunt areas
Why It Matters:
CWD is an always fatal neurological disease affecting deer, elk, and moose. Detection through hunter submissions helps Game and Fish monitor disease prevalence and evaluate future herd management actions.

- Mandatory Submission: Deer Hunt Areas 34
- Priority/Focus Areas: Deer Hunt Areas 1–14 and 21 and Elk Hunt Areas 1, 116 and 117
