The Game and Fish Department is currently trapping kokanee salmon at Rob Roy Reservoir to collect eggs to enhance our stocking program across the state. A fish trap has been set up on the upstream end of Douglas Creek to catch the fish as they migrate to spawn. It is important that the fish traps be left alone as they are vital to the egg collection process. Since the spawning program is limited by the number of eggs we can collect, it is important that red females make it to the fish traps. Anglers can assist by only fishing for kokanee while they are silver and returning any spawning (red) females to the water immediately. Returning female kokanee to the water will help the population grow, as a female can lay as many as 1,500 eggs before it dies.
