Wyoming college students learn about hunting and conservation

Lander - As part of the Forever Wild Family program, Wyoming Game and Fish partners with Wyoming Catholic College every year to lead a group of students through a hunter education course, a range day, and a bird hunt. Students learn the importance of hunting as a conservation tool and find a different kind of connection to nature. Mentoring these students through a hunt has been a valuable way to teach about ethics, tradition, and conservation.

For many Wyoming Catholic College students the Forever Wild Family hunt was their first experience handling firearms and their first time trying out hunting. This year, students hunted for released chukar at Ocean Lake Wildlife Habitat Management Area. Students complete the hunt day learning how to care for their game meat and prepare the birds for the dinner table.
