2019 Kids Fishing Days
Anyone wanting to give Wyoming fishing a try are reminded that Wyoming free fishing day is Saturday, June 1, 2019. On that day no license is required for both residents and nonresidents.

To celebrate, families are invited to the annual Riverton and Lander Kid’s Fishing days on June 1 at either the Big Bend Ponds (8:00 am) or Luckey Pond (8:00 am). Prizes will be given and hamburger/hotdog lunches provided at each location. Participants should bring their own poles, tackle and bait but some fishing gear and bait will be available if needed.

The Riverton event is sponsored by Riverton Kiwanis, with assistance from North Platte Walleyes Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Discount Sports, and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.  The Lander event is sponsored by the Popo Agie Anglers Chapter of Trout Unlimited, with assistance from the North Platte Walleyes Unlimited, Lander Kiwanis, and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. Rainbow trout were stocked in the ponds in May to provided good angling opportunities for those that attend the events.

Another fishing event happens the following weekend in Dubois at the new Pete's Pond, right in town. This brand new pond has been stocked with rainbow trout and grayling.  Join the fun on Saturday June 8. Registration starts at 8:30 am and the event begins at 9:00 am. Lunch is provided by the Dubois Kiwanis and kids will have fun learning at the stations and trying out some fishing. Sponsored also by the Shoshone National Forest, the DAWGS, and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.

Free Fishing Day (June 1, 2019) applies to all waters in Wyoming with the exceptions of Yellowstone fishing licenses being required in Yellowstone National Park and Wind River Indian Reservation fishing licenses being required when fishing on waters within the reservation.

While fishing is free on that day, anglers are reminded that all rules and regulations in the fishing regulations pamphlet still apply.

Free Fishing Day was authorized in 2003 by the Wyoming Legislature. Each year the Wyoming Game and Fish Department designates the first Saturday of National Boating and Fishing Week as the day where anyone can fish in Wyoming without a fishing license. Free fishing day is designed to provide an opportunity for people to get reacquainted with fishing and enjoy the outstanding fishing opportunity found in Wyoming.
