Trophy Mule Deer Recovered in Jackson
On December 6, the Jackson office of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department was notified of a large buck mule deer that had died at a private residence in Jackson. Game and Fish personnel responded and recovered the trophy-class buck to investigate it for any foul play, as they always do. A necropsy was performed by Jackson Game Warden Jon Stephens.
There was no evidence that it had been shot and based on the significant internal hemoraghing and a freshly broken antler tine, it was determined the massive buck likely died from a vehicle collision. A very unfortunate end for a very impressive animal and a reminder for motorists to slow down and keep a watchful eye for wildlife, especially this time of year when many big game animals head to the valley bottoms to escape the deep snow.
