As a game warden for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department you literally do not know what the next day is going to bring. Earlier this winter, Jackson Game Warden Jon Stephens responded to call from a resident north of Jackson about a pile a feathers they discovered at their front door step. When Stephens arrived, sure enough, that's exactly what he found. Further investigation revealed the carcass of a dead trumpeter swan along the side of the house and tracks left at the scene showed Stephens that the perpetrator was clearly a mountain lion. With permission from the landowner, Stephens installed a trail camera to learn more about the animal in case it returned for its swan. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your perspective, the lion did not return. Why the lion chose to partially consume the trumpeter swan at the front door step is still a mystery. The only thing for certain is that wildlife will continue to keep us guessing!
