Grayrocks is located nine miles northeast of Wheatland. The area is managed through a cooperative agreement between the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission and the Missouri Basin Power Project in 1977 to provide cooling water for the coal-fired laramie river station. The normal water elevation is 4,404 feet with a capacity of 146,880 acre feet and maximum depth of 74 feet. These lands are managed for public recreation and to improve present wildlife habitat. The Public Access Area is home to pheasants, doves, wild turkey, sharp-tailed grouse, whitetail and mule deer. The vegetation ranges from juniper to sagebrush-grasslands communities. There are twelve parking areas which provide access for fishing, and camping around the 3,500 acre reservoir as well as boating opportunities. The parking areas are developed with multiple handicap accessible comfort stations, three boat ramps and handicap accessible boat docks. The lake provides quality fishing year round for trout, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, walleye channel catfish, black crappie, yellow perch, tiger muskie, and waterfowl hunting.
