Nate Huck – Game and Fish’s new waterfowl biologist
Huck is a Berlin, Wisconsin native who earned a bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He researched the diets of northern pintails to earn his master’s degree at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
“In my travels around the state I’m impressed at the waterfowl abundance in this arid region,” he said. “I’d say Wyoming is a ‘hidden gem’ when it comes to waterfowl.”
Huck takes over for Larry Roberts who retired in July after 20 years as the state’s waterfowl biologist.
In addition to his graduate studies, Huck has field experience surveying piping plovers and waterfowl, along with banding mallards and wood ducks in seasonal positions with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Ducks Unlimited and Ohio State University.
Huck looks forward to learning more about Wyoming’s migratory bird resources and working to improve populations and hunting opportunities.
Like his predecessor, Huck is stationed at the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s Casper Region Office and can be reached at (307) 473-3412.
