Gillette game warden is Wyoming's 2017 Wildlife Officer of the Year
Dustin Kirsch, Gillette game warden, was named the “2017 Wildlife Officer of the Year” for Wyoming. The award, given annually in every state and Canadian province by the Shikar-Safari Club International, honors an officer whose efforts during the year display outstanding performance and achievement.
“Warden Kirsch is certainly a deserving recipient with a tremendous record of accomplishment in 2017 and in prior years. His law enforcement prowess sets him apart as one of the best wildlife law enforcement officers in our state and the country,” said Chief Game Warden Brian Nesvik. “Dustin is a great public ambassador for our state and agency. He is highly respected in his community and takes great pride in wearing the red shirt. Dustin’s work, in all facets of the game warden job, is stellar, and he is very deserving of this award.”
Kirsch’s nomination highlighted his considerable effort to investigate wildlife crimes against all species. Additionally detailed was his dedication to public outreach and education, including volunteerism in the schools and teaching hunter education courses. Kirsch is known for above-and-beyond participation in statewide enforcement efforts to assist fellow wardens and biologists as well as seeking specialized training.
“Dustin is a dedicated, reliable and effective game warden who has honed his skills in a very short time. He is respected and admired for his outstanding work ethic by his peers. Dustin is a very capable professional wildlife law enforcement officer and is more than deserving to be honored as Wyoming’s 2017 Shikar-Safari Officer of the Year,” said Craig Smith, Sheridan regional wildlife supervisor.
The Shikar-Safari Club International is an organization dedicated to preserving wildlife through sportsmanship and conservation. Kirsch will be presented his award and will be publicly recognized at an upcoming Wyoming Game and Fish Commission meeting.
