Gillette chapter of Wyoming sportsmen group donates bear trap/transport trailer and habitat project funds to Game and Fish
Eric Perez, spokesmen for the WSG in Gillette said, “People that are members of sportsmen’s groups and clubs like to see the money they raise used for projects close to the area where they live.  We asked the local Game and Fish employees what projects we could fund and they gave us a couple ideas.”  Perez continued, “We had a bear trap built and donated it to them.  In addition, we donated $3,500 for a habitat related project.”

The habitat project funds will be used for a mule deer winter range improvement project on Stockade-Beaver Creek in Weston County near Newcastle. Mule deer winter range will be enhanced by removing conifer trees that are encroaching on mountain shrubs that provide important winter browse.

Wyoming Game and Fish Wildlife Biologist Erika Peckham said, “Although we don't have frequent bear or mountain lion conflicts in the Gillette area, it's important to have a trap and transport trailer readily available should the need arise. We really appreciate the generous donations and look forward to working with the Gillette based Wyoming Sportsmen Group.”

The Gillette Chapter of Wyoming sportsmen group was started a little over a year ago. The bear trap was built by C&F Repair in Gillette with help from WSG members.  The mission of helping fund projects in Northeast Wyoming that benefit Wyoming’s wildlife and sportsmen and women.
