Commission approves plan for large public engagement process, urges Wyoming residents to get involved
The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission is asking members of the public to get involved in an upcoming process to gather feedback about the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. At its July meeting the Commission approved a proposal to gather data from the public about attitudes and expectations about wildlife management in Wyoming.

Game and Fish will now proceed to finalize a contract with a company that specializes in collecting public input through scientifically valid surveys and compiling feedback at in-person meetings, an online town hall and through focus groups.

The public will be invited to participate this winter and during the spring. The results of this public engagement will shape a strategic plan Game and Fish will put together next year.

“We truly value the perspectives and thoughts of all members of the public. That is why we are investing in creating opportunities to take feedback and have it done by an independent, neutral party,” said Commission President Keith Culver. “We hope everyone will provide their thoughts and ideas regarding the future of wildlife management in Wyoming.”

At the meeting the Commission also approved updated regulations for mountain lion and gray wolf hunting. As well as setting the budget for the current fiscal year and approving new objectives for 11 Wyoming elk herds.

The Commission also voted to import elk to Game and Fish’s wildlife research facility in Sybille Canyon. The elk are currently at another research facility in Colorado. They will join other elk at the Thorne-Williams Wildlife Research Center at Sybille and will be used for research  on Chronic Wasting Disease.
