Al Langston retires
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s Al Langston retired Sept. 18 after nearly 38 years with the agency.

Langston’s title changed over the years with reorganizations and promotions from assistant information manager, information supervisor, public outreach supervisor, regional information and education rep and more. But regardless of the title, for around the last 35 years he’s been Game and Fish’s primary contact for hunters and anglers.

He also served as one of the main media contacts for Game and Fish during his career, along with being a popular fly-fishing and fly-tying instructor at workshops and youth camps.

“There are thousands of people from around the globe who have benefited from Al’s knowledge of Wyoming and Wyoming’s wildlife resources. He has had a profound impact here in this state and across the entire nation, by promoting Wyoming and our culture of hunting and fishing,” Game and Fish Director Scott Talbott said.

Langston is a native of Hurricane (pronounced Hurra—cun), Utah. He earned an associate’s degree from Dixie Junior College in St. George, Utah and a bachelor’s degree in communications from Southern Utah University.

Prior to joining the department in 1977, Langston was the associate editor of Petersen’s Hunting Magazine.

In 1995 he was honored as the department’s “Information and Education Division Employee of the Year.”

Langston also served as Game and Fish’s primary representative at outdoor shows, including assisting the Wyoming Business Council at the massive “SHOT” (Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade) show in Las Vegas for the last 15 years.

Al and his wife, Lysle, have three children. In retirement he plans to hunt, fish, tie flies, reload ammunition, golf and woodwork based out of his home in Bedford.
