Engineers for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department help other employees to accomplish projects for wildlife and fish. The conservation engineering branch works on a wide variety of engineering projects throughout the state. Our work ranges from projects like:
  • hay shed construction on elk feedgrounds
  • boating access improvements such as boat ramps and docks
  • fish passage enhancements and fish barrier designs
  • stream restoration/habitat improvements
  • irrigation and water supply enhancements
  • fish hatchery improvements
  • construction of new work facilities like the Laramie Regional Office and Wildlife Forensics and Fish Health Lab
We have limited resources so we hire private consultants for a fair amount of our engineering and architectural design projects; but, we also do some in-house design. When we hire private consultants or bid out projects, we often act as project managers and contract administrators to ensure the designs produced, or construction thereof, meet the needs of the department.

The conservation engineering branch also has a professional land surveyor on-staff who handles boundary, topographic and construction surveys. Members of our branch are an integral part of the water rights team who ensure Game and Fish water rights are looked after and managed to the maximum benefit of the wildlife.

With the vast array of the engineering projects, along with the beautiful locations see while working, an engineer for Game and Fish is one of the coolest jobs in Wyoming.
