Tongue River Canyon PAA is located outside of Dayton, WY. This access area provides camping for up to eight users in designated locations with established fire pits and several bear proof food storage containers that are communally shared between the camp locations. All of these camping locations are located at the entrance to the canyon and accompanied by a developed outhouse. Access with trailers and large vehicles is limited past this point. At the end of the road, you will find a gravel parking lot with developed outhouses, and serves as the starting point for access to the Big Horn National Forest (Trail #002). Tongue River offers high quality fishing for rainbow and brown trout, as well as mountain sucker, and cutthroat trout in the upper reaches of the canyon. Other wildlife that frequent the area include black bear, mountain lion, moose, elk, and mule deer. The trailhead and trail are maintained through a cooperative agreement with the United States Forest Service and is open to the public for foot, and horse traffic year round within the designated PAA boundary. The boundary and limited access protects wintering wildlife that seek refuge on the adjacent Amsden WHMA. Access to the location can be reached by taking County Road 92 from Highway 14. Travel approximately 3.3 miles to reach camping and outhouse facilities, and another 1.5 miles to final parking lot, outhouse facilities, and trailhead to national forest.
