Just east of the Natrona/Converse County line, the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission hold an easement for a small parking area on OSLI land that comprises the North Platte River – Big Muddy Pond Public Access Area. A roughly ½-mile hike from the parking area brings the sportsperson to Big Muddy Pond, which contains excellent warm water species fishing such as bass and sunfish. Just past the pond, there are miles of pedestrian access along the North Platte River. The Big Muddy Pond Public Access Area is also an excellent point to access waterfowl, small game, and big game hunting opportunities. Bird watchers also flock to the area to observe neo-tropical songbirds, nesting bald eagles, and oodles of migrating waterfowl and shorebirds. The river provides quality fishing year-round for rainbow and brown trout as well as hunting opportunities. If utilizing the area to walk your dogs, bring along a set of cable cutters, and keep a close eye on your dogs as trapping operations may occur here. No camping or fires allowed. WGFD does not plow the parking area in the winter.
