Youth fishing challenges

Wyoming youth fishing challenges can help young anglers expand their angling skills and discover Wyoming's amazing diversity of fish. Youth anglers who complete one of the following challenges will receive a collectible certificate from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.

Any youth 18 years old or younger can complete one of the seven youth fishing challenges below for collectible certificate from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. Go catch a fish! Catch a number of them!

Eligibility requirements:

  • Any youth 18 years old and under may participate.

  • All fish must be caught in Wyoming.

  • Photos must feature the youth, fish and water where the fish was caught.

  • Application sheet and photos must be submitted to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department for authorization.

  • Fish can be caught over multiple years.

  • Youth who successfully complete any youth fishing challenge will receive a collectible certificate from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department recognizing them for their accomplishments and showing the species caught.

Cowboy Chase

Catch any two of these fish that are native to Wyoming: burbot, channel catfish, sauger, shovelnose sturgeon, stonecat and whitefish.

Cool Catch

Catch any two fish commonly found in larger, cooler waters: crappie, northern pike, smallmouth bass, tiger muskie, walleye and yellow perch.

Pond Pair

Catch any two fish commonly found in smaller, warmer waters: black bullhead, bluegill, green sunfish, largemouth bass, pumpkinseed and rock bass.

Trout Trio

Catch any three species or subspecies of trout found in Wyoming: brook, brown, cutthroat, golden, grayling, kokanee, lake, rainbow, splake and tiger.

Habitat Counts

Catch a fish from three different habitats: beaver ponds, lakes, ponds, reservoirs, rivers, small streams and tailwaters.

Hatchery Hop

Visit four separate Wyoming state or national fish hatcheries/rearing stations: Auburn, Bolder, Clark's Fork, Daniel, Dubois, Speas, Story, Ten Sleep, Tillet, Wigwam, Saratoga (national) or Jackson (national). You must take a picture with the hatchery sign.
