CHEYENNE - Wyoming residents who have completed hunter education instructor certification in the last three years are invited to sign up for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department annual Hunter Education Instructor Academy to be held July 25-27 at the YMCA of the Bighorns – Camp Roberts. The camp is located 16 miles west of Buffalo just off Highway 16.
WGFD Commission regulation requires hunter education instructors to attend a new instructor workshop within two years of becoming certified as an instructor.
There is no fee for the orientation training. Meals and lodging at Camp Roberts are provided in part through a grantfrom the Central Wyoming Chapter of Safari Club International.
Numbers of camp participants are limited and hunter education coordinator Jim Dawson said that slots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Dawson said the camp is designed to increase correctness of material being taught, and improve communication in teaching the hunter education program. “Those attending will receive instruction on hunter responsibility and ethics, wildlife management, teaching firearms skills and firearms safety, wildlife issues, and laws and survival, Dawson said.”
Interested persons can call Jim Dawson 307-473-3439 to register. Hunter Education Instructor applications, forms and a checklist of the steps to certification are on the WGFD Hunter Education webpage at: wgfd.wyo.gov.
