CHEYENNE - The Wyoming Game and Fish Department will be holding public meetings on proposed regulations on fishing and fish hatcheries and regulations governing taxidermists.
Informational videos on the proposed fishing regulation changes are available online at: wgfd.wyo.gov.
Statewide fisheries management coordinator David Zafft says these videos provide anglers with an update to the comments they made earlier in the year at regulation scoping meetings across the state.
“We took input from anglers and listened to their concerns about our proposed regulations,” Zafft said. “Game and Fish biologists took input from anglers and listened to their concerns about our proposed regulations earlier this year at regulation scoping meetings across the state. We were able to use some ideas, but not all of them. We work hard to listen to diverse and oftentimes, opposing opinions from anglers, but we also must do what is right for the fisheries,” said Zafft.
Anglers or other interested parties also have the opportunity to provide comments electronically at the same online location. Statewide issues, including proposed changes to use of artificial light for fishing and proposed changes to live bait importation laws, will be discussed.
Proposed changes governing taxidermists would comply with statutes passed in the 2014Wyoming Legislative Session. Those include 48 hours of notice before a Game and Fish record inspection and relaxing interstate game tag requirements.
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department will be accepting comments on the final proposed changes until August 17 at 5 p.m. by mailing: Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Regulations, 3030 Energy Lane, Casper, WY 82604 or through the Game and Fish website. Copies of the proposed regulations are available at the same address or on the Game and Fish website at wgfd.wyo.gov All comments will be presented to the Game and Fish Commission before they address the proposals at their Sept. 18-19 meeting in Pinedale.
Public meetings will be held July 15 at 5 p.m. at the Sheridan Game and Fish Regional Office and July 22 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Casper Game and Fish Regional Office. The Casper meeting will only cover fishing and fish hatchery regulations.
